JEFFERSON MEMORIAL
acrylic on paper, 16" X 20"

My wife Kim played a concert in the Kennedy Center spring of 2002 with Rachel Cross & Mary Sue Twohy. It was an outstanding performance to a full house and they received a well deserved enthusiastic Kennedy Center standing ovation.

We took a family trip to D.C. and stayed with friends in Tacoma Park Md. It
just so happens that the cherry blossoms were at their peak and as lovely as they had ever been. I was stunned by the beauty of the National Mall in the spring. It had the promise of life on the base of our rich national History.
My daughters and I walked an entire day under the extensive line of blooming trees, but there was something about the Jefferson Memorial that stands out.

The philosophy of Thomas Jefferson is central pillar of our democracy and
the designers and builders of the Jefferson Memorial honored him well. I
knew that I had to attempt to paint the beauty and exquisite way that the
Memorial stands within the trees and reflects in the tidal pool, but this
was to be a real challenge. However after many studies, I finally completed a painting that I feel captured the splendid way the Jefferson Memorial illuminates the surroundings of our National Mall.
